Another good way to prepare for your GMAT exam day is to make sure that you have all of your materials with you, so that you don’t waste time pulling out a book or looking for a section that you need to study. When you sit down to study, try to focus on one idea at a time. For instance, if you are going to study an argument, try to break it down step by step, and answer the questions that you know the answer to. If you have a list of questions to study, then put the most important ones on top, and the rest underlined. This will keep you from wasting time looking for the right answers to the wrong questions, which will result in you studying more, and thus, not sleeping well at night.

Also, when studying, make sure that you don’t eat or drink anything close to night time. Many people eat or drink right before going to sleep, and this makes it harder to wake up in time for your GMAT test the next day. Keep food and drinks at a minimum, when studying for an exam.

When studying, remember to take breaks in between, and keep things interesting. It’s easy to get caught up in a project or think about an idea when you are studying for the GMAT. However, doing so late at night will cause you to be tired, fatigued, and just generally not sharp. In fact, you might actually do worse on the exam day if you stay up late studying. Therefore, it’s important to allow yourself a little bit of down time, say fifteen minutes or so, before bedtime. This will keep you from becoming excessively tired, as well as keeping you alert for the GMAT.

Try to rest as much as possible before the exam. On test day itself, you should have eaten something fairly late, but not before three hours before. After all, you don’t want your brain to be completely exhausted by the time test time rolls around. And finally, avoid drinking alcohol, at least two hours before the test. Alcohol can cause your mind to become distracted and make you less likely to focus when studying for your GMAT.
