There are many different syllabuses and techniques that can be used to take a GMAT test. And I’m sure you‘ve heard a lot of them, from friends, family, and other resources. I’ve found that the best method for me has been to follow a step-by-step set of instructions, which has allowed me to not only study more, but get everything done faster and smarter than I could on my own.
You see, the main problem with so many of these different approaches is that they are all pretty much the same. They are all designed to take my time, to speed up the process, while providing little in the way of specifics, explanations or anything really solid. This can cause problems because I have a busy life with work, family, sports and other activities. So what should I look for in a good syllabus?
First of all, I want a syllabus that provides real information. Not just general information, which will bore an already tired student. The information needs to be directly relevant to what will be tested. If the syllabus only covers GMAT preparation, then it won’t help me. I must get material that pertains to each section of the GMAT test. So a good syllabus should cover everything necessary for each section, including practice tests and resources.
Another key feature is that the course should be well-organized. My instructor often gave me a lot of extra time to complete classwork, which was very appreciated. The time allotment should be appropriate for the student’s ability. For example, if I spend two hours on an area, then that should be considered moderate time-spending, but if I spend three hours on that same area, then I should be asking myself if I need that class.
A good test preparation course should help teach students how to make full use of their studying time. I started taking the GMAT test last year, but I missed the earlier versions because I didn’t feel prepared. But when I took the practice test in January, I was surprised at how much I knew. And I was able to devote more time to studying and practicing for the test, thus increasing my chances of success on the GMAT.
And don’t discount the importance of taking the GMAT mock tests. Even the most talented students will usually perform poorly on the GMAT. By taking a mock test, you can determine how well you’re progressing, and you’ll be able to take advantage of any improvements you see in your strengths. Studying effectively and properly is the key to success on the GMAT test. So don’t overlook the importance of taking a mock exam.
Don’t become too obsessed with memorizing every passage. Concentrate instead on understanding the meaning of each concept and taking the right amount of time to read through all the questions. Studying correctly and efficiently will make studying for the GMAT much easier, and you will be able to focus on answering the test and not on being correct. Following the GMAT syllabus is definitely a good start, but it won’t make you a great test taker.
If you really want to get ahead and succeed on the GMAT test, don’t make the huge mistake of assuming that you must study by yourself. Test preparation tools are available online that will help you get ready for the exam, but you still need to put in the work. The GMAT test is a series of multiple-choice questions, so if you want to get a high score, you must practice both logic and critical thinking skills. Taking practice tests will not only give you an idea of how the test will proceed, but will also give you a feel for the types of questions you will face.
Another great idea is to buy a practice GMAT exam book and study in front of a mirror. It’s incredibly common for students to get anxious and cranky when they’re taking a test, so mirroring your own breath can help you calm down and get better prepared. Furthermore, sitting alone in a room and answering questions isn’t always as good as getting a tutor. Tutors will be able to guide you through weak areas, and help you master the concepts and skills you’ll need for the GMAT test.
Studying the GMAT exam syllabus correctly is important, because only by learning the theory section can you prepare for the real exam. If you’ve taken enough practice tests, you should be able to figure out the main points, answer the test questions, and have a reasonable idea of what you need to do for each section. However, if you have any questions about specific topics, it’s best to consult a tutor. A tutor can give you advice on how to approach the problem, and might even be able to give you practice exams to help you figure out the correct answers before you take the real GMAT test. If you spend a little extra time studying for your GMAT test, you’ll find it much easier to get ready for the test in the first place.
